Golf Betting: Olympic plays into Donald's hands

While Mark Allen would like to offer his humblest apologies for suggesting laying Tiger at The Memorial, he has little issue with suggesting Luke Donald as his best bet for the 112th US Open.

The 112th US Open at The Olympic Club will be a very different affair to the scoring bonanza that we saw last year at Congressional where eventual champion, Rory McIlroy, went crazy and shot an amazing 16 under the card.

The fairways will be rolled this week and the greens will be at their famous, firm, US Open best. At The Olympic Club you need to be able to shape your drives more so than on any other Major layout. Six of the holes dogleg one way and then bounce the other, which means players have to be able to move the ball both ways to take full advantage.

This plays firmly into Luke Donald's hands. The world number-one has had to wait, but finally I believe it's his time and he deserves to be outright favourite at this course. Luke is eighth in the world at fairways hit, the best bunker player in the game, and hardly ever makes a bogey. To go all the way, he's listed as a (14.00) chance, and is my bet of the tournament.

Lee Westwood probably fits into the same category. He won by five shots in Europe last week and is due. Westwood is a class act and someone who will undoubtedly be there when the whips are cracking. To me, (14.00) is also over the odds.

Now, I know I told you to lay Tiger at The Memorial where he won - sorry about that - but this course really doesn't suit him. He's the favourite this week, and the fact he's won here twice would make you think he'll be full steam ahead.

Think again.

I'm still not sold on his game from the tee with driver in hand - and definitely not sold on him shaping the ball around The Olympic Club corners.

I'd lay him from day one and get some of that cash back this week. He might still be around the mark on day four but I think he'll be too far back.

On form, I can't see any of the Australian boys going close this week, but if you're looking for some value - Aaron Baddeley to be the highest placed Aussie is your go.
