Golf Betting: All the way with Day at Memorial

It's coming into a time in the golfing year that Betfair InFormer Mark Allen loves, and here's why...

We're now on the doorstep of the Majors, with the US Open at Olympic Club in San Francisco just around the corner.

We've just played Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson's events and now we are off to Ohio for The Memorial Tournament to honour the great Jack Nicklaus - all the superheroes of the game are up and running.

At 7,300 yards it's not the shortest of layouts, but the par fives are gettable in two. This brings everybody into the equation.

It is hard to pick a winner, but as usual we look for value when searching for solid bets.

Jason Day is once again in my picks.

Two tied ninths surround a missed cut so he's playing decent golf. But these days Jason lives locally in Ohio and is now a member at Muirfield Village Country Club - where they're playing this week. I can't tell you how massive the advantage is to sleep in your own bed while competing. He'll love that this week and @ Betfair odds of (42) is easily the value pick of the week. Get on early and enjoy the week.

Luke Donald has just defended at Wentworth in a four-shot cakewalk and is flying.

That's six wins in a little over a year worldwide. He's on fire. It's not a Major this week so he's a massive chance on a course that will suit. (11.50) at the moment is great value for a favourite. He should be around $7 in real terms.

Rickie Fowler should be in your calculations this week. His first win is now out of the way and he's had three top-fives in a row - including that win at Quail Hollow. He's 16th in greens hit in regulation on Tour and as so many golfers do after their first win, the second shouldn't be too far away. Decent value @ Betfair odds of (21.0).

I wouldn't be laying Tiger just yet (17.0). Wait until half way through to see what he's doing. He has been teasing us with a win at Bay Hill, but has done little else. If he looks to be swinging well, stay away. If you see some anger and he's thereabouts after two rounds, he's probably still not comfortable with his swing and would be a good lay prospect.
