PGA Tour Betting: Three Against The Field at the Memorial Tournament

Three big names for Dan Geraghty as he searches for a winner from a trio of golfers.

After four missed cuts from the last six selections I was pleased to see all three of last week's golfers make the cut. Vijay put up the best fight and traded at a low of [3.0] before giving way. Singh played wonderfully for the first two days but if I had a pound for every putt inside ten foot that he missed during the weekend, well, I'd have about fifteen quid.

* * *

Tiger's back this week and yes I'm going to back him. It's not original but I will qualify it by saying that the only other time I've tipped him in this column he won at odds of [3.6]. There's been plenty of negative headlines for Woods since his comeback and that will certainly have hurt his pride. After getting himself into the final group at the Players he ultimately fell away tamely but he's had a good break since then. For personal reasons Woods has been unable to play in this tournament for the last two years, he will be looking forward to getting back to a course where he won three years running from 1999 to 2001.

Earlier in the year I tipped up Ian Poulter three weeks in a row at big prices and each week he finished higher than the last, the sequence ended with a great second place at the Players. This week I'm selecting Vijay Singh for the third week in a row. Two weeks ago he finished tied 16th for me and last week he was 6th. Contrary to Woods he is playing lots of competitive golf and the man thrives on it, after his second round 64 last week Singh said he was playing so well that he couldn't wait to get back out there and play again.

Look away now Mr Editor... my third selection is Ernie Els (editors comment: good grief Mr geraghty we'll have to take another look at your contract son!). Many people believe Ernie has gone at the game but I still have faith. This is a course Els classes as "by far the best on the PGA tour" and he won here in 2004. After a disappointing week at Wentworth, Els took last week off but spent the time working intensively on his game. He's paired with Woods for the first two days and a good week awaits. Trade, trade, trade!

Selections: Tiger Woods ([4.0]), Vijay Singh ([26.0]), Ernie Els ([70.0])
