Penrith's hopes of marking their 1000th premiership outing with a win were crushed when the St George Illawarra Dragons produced a solid performance to beat them 25-6 at CUA Stadium, writes Andy Morris.
The Dragons used a 61 percent possession share in the first half to race into a 12-0 lead then saw off the Panthers' comeback bid to record their seventh straight success.
It means the Panthers' chances of claiming a top-four finish have receded as they failed to shackle Jamie Soward, who raced over for a 75m solo try to go with his four goals and a field goal.
Jeremy Smith scored two of the Dragons' four tries, while Panthers utility Luke Lewis scored his side's only try five minutes into the second half.
The Titans brushed aside the Warriors in Auckland to boost their hopes of a top-four spot.
Gold Coast won 30-10 at Mt Smart Stadium, to bounce back well after last week's heavy home loss to the Cowboys.
Anthony Laffranchi scored the first of the Titans' tries, Scott Prince added another before Manu Vatuvei brought the Warriors back into the game with two tries.
But Mat Rogers scored two tries for the Gold Coast and rookie Kevin Gordon also went over.
The Wests Tigers, buoyed by their success over Manly in the last round, broke into the top-eight by beating the Roosters 17-10 at the Sydney Football Stadium.
The Roosters led 8-0 early on through tries to Setaimata Sa and Shaun Kenny-Dowall. But Taniela Tuiaki touched down to make it 8-4 to the Roosters at the break.
Beau Ryan chased a grubber to put his side level, and Benji Marshalled converted to give the Tigers the lead for the first time. Ryan's second try of the match sealed the deal.
The Bulldogs held on for a 23-20 win over the Canberra Raiders at ANZ Stadium.
They led by 11 points at one stage before the Raiders mounted a comeback that took them to within one point with 10 minutes remaining.
It was not until full-time when a Hazem El Masri penalty put daylight between the teams that the Bulldogs could breathe easy.
Half-back Brett Kimmorley scored a try, set up two others and landed a field goal for the Bulldogs.
South Sydney surprised Manly at Brookvale Oval by picking up a 36-22 victory.
The Rabbitohs, who were down by 12 points early in the game, scored four tries in 13 minutes to take control of the match and the win put them in ninth place on the ladder.
The Eels moved to within a point of the top eight after their fourth straight win, achieved at Newcastle.
Parramatta won 40-8 as they scored six tries to one, Luke Burt finishing with 24 points from two tries and eight goals.
Melbourne ground its way to a 20-8 win over the Cowboys at Olympic Park.
Billy Slater and Dallas Johnson finished on the winning side in their 150th games as the home side edged closer to a top-four berth.
It was the Cowboys' seventh loss in as many visits to the stadium.
