The Bulldogs made undermanned Penrith pay for being unable to field six of their players as they won 19-12 at ANZ Stadium, writes Andy Morris.
The Panthers had six out through injury and skipper Petero Civoniceva lost to Origin, so went into the game as the underdogs.
But they held the Bulldogs level at 6-6 at the break before the home side scored two tries to one in the second stanza to take the points.
The Storm managed to overcome the loss of their State of Origin quartet as they beat the Wests Tigers 14-12 at Olympic Park.
Half-back Cooper Cronk scored the game's first try, converted by Joseph Tomane. But Blake Ayshford replied and Benji Marshall levelled the scores with the conversion.
Tomane kicked a goal to put the Storm ahead 8-6 at the break, then converted Matt Cross' try.
It became tight again with 11 minutes left when Tim Moltzen scored under the posts, with Marshall's kick cutting the gap to two points. But the Storm held out to secure the victory.
Manly is in the top eight for the first time this year after beating Canberra 20-14 at Brookvale Oval.
The Sea Eagles have now won five of their last six matches, with this latest win coming without five of their Origin stars.
But they will be disappointed that, having built a 20-0 lead after 53 minutes, they allowed the Raiders to score three tries in seven minutes to get back into the match.
North Queensland beat the Sydney Roosters 24-22 at Dairy Farmers Stadium to increase the woes of the Roosters.
With all the attention centred on coach Brad Filler in the lead-up to the game, it was surprising that the Roosters went out to an early 10-0 lead.
But the Cowboys were let back into the match and led 24-16 at the break. They conceded another try in the second half but just held out, and the Roosters were further harmed when skipper Braith Anasta was carried off with a suspected broken ankle.
The Sharks keep improving, and saw off the Broncos 46-12 at Toyota Stadium on Monday night.
Blake Ferguson went over in the third minute to put them ahead, but Corey Parker replied on six minutes and by converting his own try put the Broncos ahead 8-6.
From then it was all one-way traffic as Mitch Brown scored, Grant Millington got a double and Ferguson completed his hat-trick.
There were further scores from Kade Snowden and Luke Covell, who kicked six conversions, while the Broncos' only joy came from a Steve Michaels try early in the second stanza.
