The Emirates Stakes is renowned for dishing up a rough result, and Brad Thompson thinks this year's race will be no exception.
In recent years, Tears I Cry ($101), Valedictum ($26) and All American ($41) have saluted for savvy punters looking for large odds.
On Saturday, Chris Waller-trained Snow Alert will go around at attractive odds despite a luckless run in the Crystal Mile.
The five-year-old was steaming into the race around the turn, but copped a heavy check at the 400m mark. The severe inconvenience meant Snow Alert had no hope of winning, and he could have been forgiven for dropping right out and finishing in the last couple.
But the son of Red Ransom was going so well that he picked himself back up and ran fifth behind Sound Journey, beaten by 3.5 lengths.
Snow Alert has never won in group company, but has been placed at Group 3 level. It's obviously a mammoth step up in class, and hence the inflated odds for punters who think he can run well in the Group One Emirates.
Glyn Schofield takes the trip at just 52.5kg from a wide draw of barrier 16.
There's plenty of queries with Snow Alert, but on the Crystal Mile run alone, he deserves to backed at each-way value.
Wall Street is a proven contender at this level and should be backed if he gets out to ridiculous odds, as should Palacio De Cristal.
The latter has drawn wide, but barriers have played little importance on runners winning chances in recent years.
