South Australian conditioner Ken Sweeney will head to Morphettville on Wednesday with nine gallopers who are, much like himself, underrated. Brad Thompson analyses his main chances.
Race five on the card is a 0-75 handicap over 1200m and looks a super race for a midweek meeting in Adelaide
Ken Sweeney's first hope this Wednesday comes up in race two, a maiden plate over 1000m, with Chievo Verona.
The three-year-old filly heads to the racetrack for the second time, following a debut, which, on paper at least, reads below par. The fact alone that Sweeney elected to take the daughter of Catbird to a Saturday meeting outlines the opinion he has of her and, although she ran last, beaten by 10 lengths, the race was full of depth. She completed a barrier trial on February 1 and the performance indicates a solid showing first-up. Clare Lindop in the saddle from gate nine ticks more boxes, so expect healthy odds for Chievo Verona.
Another three-year-old filly, Little Lucky, lines up in race three over 1400m, and has shown consistency this campaign with two close-up third placings in succession. Top hoop Domenic Tourneur takes the ride from the favourable barrier of four, and looks to be racing in fine fettle and at the right journey.

Call Centre for Kevin Sweeney enjoyed a stellar campaign in 2009, capped by three wins and several other encouraging showings around the 1200m distance. The five-year-old grey ran Oakbank Heights within a length over 1250m, and has since gone onto win emphatically in Saturday grade at Morphettville in recent weeks. Tourneur picks up the ride and, from barrier two, should take up a forward role.
In race six, Sedbergh looks to be well weighted in 0-71 handicap over 1400m, and gets in favourable following the 2kg claim from capable apprentice Tillie Neve. His last run behind Shout Out Loud is a good pointer to his chances here, with that galloper going on to record a victory at Morphettville on Saturday.
Footlight in the last looks to have claims, but stick with Chievo Verona, Call Centre and Sedbergh and punters should come out on top.
