We've reached the quarter-final stage of the Grand National World Cup and here, hot off the press, are the results of the quarter-final matches - plus the draw for the semi-final matches which will take place later today.
Quarter-final results:
Kilbeggan Blade 0 Brooklyn Brownie 2
Brooklyn Brownie edges the clash of the next door neighbours (they are 33 and 34 on the racecard). In the end analysis Brooklyn has the 'A' for Aintree factor with a creditable effort in the Grand Sefton last November and seemed to enjoy the big fences. Kilbeggan Blade's defeat at odds of 2/5 in a hurdle race at Warwick is hardly an orthodox preparation.
Parsons Legacy 2 My Will 1
This pair have both been well backed - and in the case of My Will, he now looks rather ludicrously short. He ran a cracker in the Gold Cup - but his overall profile doesn't fit with his current price so much is down to the Ruby Walsh factor. Parsons Legacy has been given a break after a lacklustre effort at Cheltenham and the market confidence is a positive.
Cloudy Lane 3 Rambling Minster 2
Cloudy Lane very much has the National experience and ran a solid race last year when sixth. He has top weight to defy and very much out of character was a faller in his prep-race at Kelso when tumbling at the very first fence. Much further down the weights Rambling Minster is fancied by many good judges but the current form of the stable is a worry. Cloudy Lane, with the Grand National experience, gets the nod.
State Of Play 1 Snowy Morning 0
Snowy Morning was an excellent third to Comply Or Die last year but came to the race in better form last year. This time around he fell when beaten in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown and was a well beaten second last time out to Black Apalachi. State Of Play has only won once since his Hennessy success of 2006 but is coming back to form and is potentially very well handicapped,
Semi Final draw:
Brooklyn Brownie v Parsons Legacy
Cloudy Lane v State of Play
(Matches to be played Thursday 2 April)
