Last year’s Cox Plate winner, So You Think, aims to create history by backing up as a four-year-old to take the coveted weight-for-age event.

Sarah Peatling, the lady with the key facts, offers up the goods on the Cox Plate.

FACT: No horse has won the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) as a three-year-old, then followed up with success as a four-year-old. Only three have tried this unique feat out of a total of 19: Octagonal (1996), Kingster (1956) and Delta (1950).

FACT: Racing Hall of Fame Legend, Bart Cummings, has trained a total of four Cox Plate winners with So You Think (2009), Dane Ripper (1997), Saintly (1996) and Taj Rossi (1973).

This year he aims to make it a fifth victory with So You Think.


FACT: Barrier six has provided the most Cox Plate winners in the last 20 years. They were Maldivian (2008), Savabeel (2004), Fields of Omagh (2003), Octagonal (1995) and Super Impose (1992).

Veteran galloper Zipping, who comes off a last start win in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m), starts from lucky barrier six.


FACT: At nine years of age, the David Hayes-trained Fields of Omagh was the oldest winner in Cox Plate history when he saluted in 1996.

Partnered by Nick Hall for two Group 1 wins, Danehill-gelding Zipping aims to become just the second horse to achieve the feat.


FACT: The winning record for odds-on favourites in the Cox Plate are 19 starters for 13 wins.

This year, super talented High Chapparal colt, So You Think, aims to make it a fourteenth wins for odds-on favourites


FACT: Jockey Glen Boss has ridden the most Cox Plate winners (So You Think in 2009 and Makybe Diva in 2005) out of those jockeys competing in the country's richest weight-for-age race.

This year he pilots the Queensland-trained Captain Sonador.
