Master O'Reilly can repeat his 2007 Caulfield Cup win this weekend, writes Kristen Manning.
He also boasts strong lead up form, a bit better than when he won this race two years ago.
What an even and thus tricky Caulfield Cup field we are presented with this year, 18 horses (plus four emergencies) from a variety of form lines - only four start last winners but a bit of class with nine Gr.1 winners.
Amongst that lot are last year's Melbourne Cup winner Viewed - who has his share of weight with 57kg here.
Viewed is racing in great form but he will get back from barrier 15 and be doing his best work late - that big Tuesday in November looking his major spring assignment again.
A few of this year's Cup candidates come here via the Kelt Stakes, one of New Zealand's biggest races. Best of the runs in that was Daffodil who caught the eye with a strong late finish.
Harris Tweed and Sarrera meanwhile were a bit disappointing but their previous form was good.
The former shaped well in Sydney earlier in the year whilst the latter has already proven himself amongst Victoria 's toughest horses. Any rain about would enhance his prospects.
Speaking of tough - Light Vision. He is as honest as they come and he is yet to run a poor race over a trip.
Unfortunately he has fared badly in the barrier draw - 19, but there is not a great deal of natural pace here and he may be able to work across and get a sit. If he does he will be right there fighting out the finish as he always does.
