All eyes will be on Sandown Park this Thursday night for the final of the $150,000 Radio Sport 927 Sandown Cup Final over 715 metres at 9.40 p.m..
Heat winners Vintage Octane (box 5), Sirocco Hero (6), Headley Bale (7), and Mantra Lad (8) look set to swamp the inside chasers early and there is no doubt the winner will come from these four.
Mantra Lad's 'best on night' 41.99 demolition job last week will see him start favourite but there will be no shortage of support for the black bitch Headley Bale who was equally impressive.
Horse racing experts Deane Lester and Mark Hunter are represented in the final with Vintage Octane, an outstanding stayer who has speedy little brother Octanol starting on his inside and Sirocco Hero on his outside which won't help his cause at all.
But with a 100% strike rate at the track and distance I can see Vintage Octane making good ground late.
With so much pure speed I think Total Denial's 41.80 track record is under serious threat. And the chief attacker will be Mantra Lad from Headley Bale and Sirocco Hero.
The under card at Sandown Park is as strong as you will find anywhere and I think we can find a few specials.
The Sandown Cup consolation is the Steve Moran and here I think Natalie Rass can make up for narrowly missing out on the final.
The Dave Hodgson Memorial over 515 metres will see us re-coup our losses from El Galo last week at Warrnambool. With Trew Millions, Fidel Bale and Jarvis Bale up against him we will get a reasonable price and I am sure this week we will see him crash through the half million dollars in career prize money mark.
The absolute good thing of the night is Fedex in the seventh and I'll be playing Fedex all-up into Mantra Lad.
A sensational night of chasing this Thursday at Sandown Park so be sure to tune in for Ronny Hawkswell's calls.
