DJ to win first time out?
There's not a Tiger nor a Phil in sight, but that's not stopping Dan Geraghty from plunging into the SBS Championship odds in search of winners!
"Back a confident Dustin Johnson to book his place in next year's field with victory this week."
Happy New PGA Tour Year everyone!
At first glance it's an underwhelming field for the first PGA tour event of the season and it's certainly the weakest for this event in recent times. There's no Tiger and no Phil but when it comes down to it, all these players won on tour last year and the absence of the biggest names dramatically improves everyone else's chances. We now have a wide open event.
My first selection of the new year is Dustin Johnson. Johnson has won twice on tour in his short career so far and still has a lot of untapped potential. His early season form has been excellent in his two years on Tour and his win last year came as early as February. He made his first appearance at this event last year and finished a very respectable 11th. Back a confident Dustin to book his place in next year's field with victory this week.
Another young American with the world at his feet is Sean O'Hair who booked his place here by winning last years Quail Hollow Championship and ended his PGA Tour season with a fine third place at the Tour Championship, giving best to only the absent Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. With a fourth place finish in this event last year, O'Hair may well be the man to beat.
From 2004 to 2006 Stuart Appleby won this event three years in a row, it may well be that the course suits specific players and fresh from playing on the Australian tour Geoff Ogilvy will not have a better chance at defending a title than this week in a rag-tag 28 man field.
Selections: Dustin Johnson ([24.0]), Sean OHair ([14.0]), Geoff Ogilvy ([10.5])
