DJ can tame Scottsdale this weekend

Dustin Johnson missed the cut on his only start here back in 2009 but the boy was still wet behind the ears and a PGA Tour rookie. That uninspiring performance is forgiven.

The big man with a big swing is Dan Geraghty's headline tip in this week's Three Against the Field column.

Sigh... I was one week early with Bubba but it was great to see the little big man win again.

This week I'm selecting Dustin Johnson as headline tip, basically because every time I'm supporting someone else (like Bubba last week) and I see Dustin on the leader-board, I get scared. The man seems to have a 12 foot putt for birdie on every hole.

Dustin blew away the cobwebs last week and finished with a wet sail (shooting a final round 66 to finish third), he missed the cut on his only start here back in 2009 but the boy was still wet behind the ears and a PGA Tour rookie. That uninspiring performance is forgiven.

Someone who may be inspired by Bubba's victory last week is his Ryder Cup partner Jeff Overton. Overton was arguably the stand-out performer of that partnership and he'll be eager for his moment in the winner's circle. Jeff has shot some good scores on this course, he's made the cut on each of his three visits, the best of which was last years 24th place. Few would be surprised should Overton break his PGA Tour duck this week.

After his excellent performance here last year (finished third after a last round 65), YE Yang looks a good bet this week at a nice price. Yang complained of having been "kicked on the rear for two whole days" at Torrey Pines last weekend but he will find this week's test more to his liking and the Korean major winner can build on last year's debut here. The punter will also be following Yang with interest.

Dangers: The obvious threats are last week's headline tip Rickie Fowler (second here last year) and two-time Scottsdale winner Phil Mickelson. Both appear to be in good form and deserve their short prices. Bubba can't be ruled out, he's finished in the top ten here before and Nick Watney must be on any short-list after last weeks insane last round (he was 8 under through 9).

Selections: Dustin Johnson [13.5], Jeff Overton [75.0], YE Yang [95.0]
