Can Sergio deliver at chunky odds?
It's always risky business backing the twitchy Garcia but at this price, on this course, I'm willing to take a chance.
Dan Geraghty is going for a trio of big names with big reputations in this week's Three Against the Field column.
The market leaders look very short this week. Martin Kaymer [12.5] hasn't played here before and after last weeks tame finish it'd be brave to keep the faith and it's a big ask for Nick Watney [13.5] to follow up his excellent win straight away despite his fantastic form.
Sean O'Hair [90.0] really has fallen off the radar over the last year. He was the great hope for US golf but the 2010 Ryder Cup passed without his inclusion and he's been overtaken by other young Americans like Rickie Fowler and Watney in the pecking order. However, O'Hair put in a good performance last time out at the Honda Classic and finished an encouraging 24th. He's missed the cut here each of the last two years, however, he won the tournament in 2008 (when it existed under the name PODS Championship but was played on the same course) and for my money is a huge price this week. O'Hair is part of an exciting three ball this week, I think both Jason Day and Stephen Ames will be competitive and hopefully they can all drag each other along.
With my doubts over the market leaders I think Retief Goosen [32.0] is worth chancing. The Goose has won here twice before and was fifth last year. He's not hit top form yet this season but he's had a couple of top 20s and will surely be feeling very confident coming to a tournament he's performed so well at in the past.
Sergio Garcia [75.0] is on the way back and this really should suit him down the ground. With a list of past winners that includes O'Hair, Goosen and Singh, Garcia's wonderful tee to green game will be rewarded. It's always risky business backing the twitchy Spaniard but at this price, on this course, I'm willing to take a chance.
Dangers: Jim Furyk's recent poor form has been well documented but even so, [42.0] is a generous price about last year's champion. Two of last weeks picks are back for more and Brendon De Jonge and Alex Prugh again make my shortlist.
Selections: Retief Goosen [32.0], Sean O'Hair [90.0], Sergio Garcia [75.0]
