Dan Geraghty goes winner hunting at the Byron Nelson fresh from selecting last week's victor - [40.0] shot David Toms...
Form is temporary, class is permanent and Dustin Johnson [17.0] will surely be grateful for that because his recent form is almost non-existent. However, this week looks to represent a fantastic opportunity to get his season back on track; the field is not as strong as it could be and Dustin's last eight rounds here read: 67, 68, 72, 67, 68, 65, 66, 66. Those wonderful figures add up to a seventh placed finish last year and he was fourth the year before that. He's away early on Thursday in a strong looking threesome (Choi and Garcia); hopefully they can inspire one another up the leaderboard. I'm almost as confident as the punter.
My next selection requires a HUGE leap of faith - Michael Sim is currently trading at [650.0]. A quick play around in the betfair win market shows that £50 on Sim can achieve a profit of £32,450. We can but dream. Sim has really struggled since a shoulder injury disrupted his 2010, but the fightback has to start somewhere and it might well be this week at a tournament he finished 23rd at last year.
Last week Sim broke a run of six missed cuts in a row with a 68th placed finish at Colonial, it doesn't sound great but it was a step forward and the young Australian shot his first round in the 60s since the very first week of the season. Sim is a big talent stuck in a rut, but it can happen to the very best of them (hello Eldrick). He's out in the first group on Thursday morning and can put himself in contention early and enable us to trade our mammoth odds.
After a wonderful year without winning, Jeff Overton [55.0] greatly enhanced his reputation at the 2010 Ryder Cup (BOOM BABY). But his season has started slowly and he now needs to kick on and achieve that first PGA Tour win. I think it will happen this year, maybe not until later in the season, but he was second here last year and will get hot soon.
Dangers: I think Jason Day [19.0] was unlucky with the draw last week, the morning starters had the best of it and he struggled to get himself in contention on Thursday afternoon. Admittedly he didn't seem to play so well as he has of late, but there's been a strong case to back him most weeks and that is the case again this week as he tees up as defending champion. Gary Woodland [50.0] made a big impression early in the season, this is his first start here but bombers seem to have a good record at TPC Four Seasons. Marc Leishman [70.0] performed admirably during the first part of the season as he has done when he's played here (two top 15 finishes).
Rickie Round-Up: Thank God it's a week off for Rickie, I can't take much more. You couldn't take your eyes off him last week; he was one chunked pitching wedge away from making history with a Colonial course record after a mind boggling back (front) nine. Quite simply a superstar waiting to happen (when he learns how to win).
Selections: Dustin Johnson [17.0], Michael Sim [650.0], Jeff Overton [55.0]
