Paul Bugeja brings you some breaking news on the Melbourne Cup.
It has just been announced that top jockey Craig Williams has been suspended and will miss his ride aboard Dunaden, second-favourite, in the Melbourne Cup.
In what would have been a history-making triple run across the Cox Plate, Caufield and Melbourne Cups, Williams now looks set to watch from the sidelines unless a last minute appeal sees his suspension downgraded to a fine.
With no word of a substitute rider as yet, this could mean William's counsel believes there is a good chance of success in the appeal.
Dunaden currently sits at 3.55 to place, with punters holding off voting with their pockets as to whether they feel this controversy will affect Dunaden's hopes of a Melbourne Cup showing.
UPDATE
William's appeal fails, with talk of a further appeal to VCAT. Dunaden has now drifted a little in betting, last matched at $3.80 to place.
