'The Kingmaker' - run over two miles each February - is named after the 16th Earl of Warwick, one of the top military commanders during the medieval War of the Roses who was responsible for the deposition of two monarchs.

Betfair has become the new sponsor for Warwick's Kingmaker Day, a meeting that has thrown up many Cheltenham winners.

The Kingmaker at Warwick Racecourse is renowned for producing top Cheltenham Festival horses and is to be sponsored for the first time this season by Betfair.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin said: "We are delighted to have secured the sponsorship of such a prestigious and high profile meeting as Kingmaker Day at Warwick Racecourse on 11 February.

"Given that we are also sponsoring the whole Newbury card as a part of 'Betfair Super Saturday' on 11 February, this association ensures that we are backing all the terrestrial television races on this day.

"It also cements my belief that we are set - if we are not already - to become the most significant bookmaking sponsor in the sport in 2012; certainly our 2012 horse racing sponsorship portfolio has never been bigger in Betfair's 12-year history and Warwick is a very welcome addition to that."
