Going into this next stage of the TDF, don’t expect breakaways to survive

In the last flat sprint stage for the Tour De France for awhile, the Tour Connoisseur expects the pure sprinters will leave everything out the road...

Going into this next stage of the TDF, don't expect breakaways to survive - there will be a collective effort from the sprinters teams to bring it back together, just as in Stage Five.

The Favourites

Andre Greipel
Two stage wins in a row for the German, so his confidence will be sky-high. Is in career-best form and his team are behind him all the way. It's hard to beat that!

Matt Goss
He's getting closer to the victory with a second to Greipel on Stage Five. Slightly mistimed his jump, which probably cost him. Knowing it's the last sprint stage for a while, he'll pull out everything to try and nail one, as will will his team.

Outsider

Mark Cavendish
Maybe the crash from two days ago has hurt him, although fifth on the previous stage is still not bad. I give him a chance.

Alessandro Petacchi
The Italian is there, or thereabouts, with an eighth place on Stage Five. He also had a couple of teammates to help him out, so he's still in the mix.

The Smokey

Juan Jose Haedo
The Argentinian came in third on Stage Five and is starting to find his legs. Won a stage of the Vuelta Espana last year. Knows how to win on the big stage.

In Summary Greipel. is hot - if you want the win, you'd be silly not to back him. I maintain Goss has the speed, so he just needs the timing. Stick with him, it'll be worth it eventually. Don't write off Cavendish after the crash - he's tough, he'll be back! Put a little on Pettachi or Haedo if you're feeling lucky.
