It remains to be seen, though, how much has been taken out of Tomic's body by the gruelling four hour 11 minute match.
Like Australians in the crowd at Rod Laver Arena today, Andy Morris will be hoping hero Bernard Tomic can summon up the energy to get through a tough second-round match.
Tomic looked down and out at times on Monday, before battling back to beat Fernando Verdasco.
It remains to be seen, though, how much has been taken out of his body by the gruelling four hour and 11 minute match.
Tomic is used to a height advantage over most of his rivals, but at 6ft6 his American opponent Sam Querrey has an inch over the Australian.
Querrey is striving to get back to the sort of form that lifted him to a world ranking of 17 a year ago. Elbow surgery last June kept him off the court for five months, and he is now down at No.95, and came to Melbourne on the back of first-round defeats in both Chennai and Auckland.
Another giant player, Florida's John Isner is on court on Wednesday as he takes on David Nalbandian.
The Argentine, who reached the semi-finals here six years ago, leads his all-time series 2-0 against the big-serving American who is best remembered for his singles match against Nicholas Mahut at Wimbledon in 2010 which lasted more than 11 hours.
The other intriguing encounter for me sees Stanislas Wawrinka take on Marcos Baghdatis.
The pair have only met once before, with Wawrinka coming out on top in Indian Wells four years ago. Though Wawrinka is ranked 22 places higher than Baghdatis, the Cypriot is sure of plenty of crowd support at a venue where he reached the final in 2006.
