Tennis Betting: King to win in hard fought series

The American is better known as a hard-court player, but she can be effective on clay and the quicker conditions will help today.

Sean Calvert brings you his best bets for Day Four of the French Open.

Heather Watson provided a welcome boost to the bank on Tuesday with an impressive display in defeating Elena Vesnina at Roland Garros.

And my suggestion of backing Andy Murray -10.5 games on the handicap also proved successful as the Scot eased past Tatsuma Ito with plenty to spare.

Albert Ramos didn't help matters when he spoiled my multiple by losing to Benoit Paire, but it does show that the courts are quicker at the moment due to the hot spell that's set to continue on Wednesday and Rafa Nadal reckons that it's faster than last year.

A few clay courters, such as Ramos and Charly Berlocq went out to the bigger hitters and there was success for hard court specialists such as Dmitry Turunov and Sergiy Stakhovsky.

But my first bet today takes place on the women's side on Court 7 where Vania King takes on Dominika Cibulkova.

The American takes a 3-0 head-to-head lead into today's match and memorably defeated Dominika here last year after losing a lengthy tie break in the opening set.

King also came out on top of the pair's meeting at the Australian Open and Domi is unlikely to unlikely to have forgotten those losses.

Cibulkova has had on OK clay swing, making the final in Barcelona, but losing in the first round in Stuttgart (to Akgul Amanmuradova) and Madrid before winning a couple of games in Rome and Brussels.

The American is better known as a hard-court player, but she can be effective on clay and the quicker conditions will help today.

The Betfair odds of (3.7) about a King win is worth starting with on a back-to-lay basis and the Betfair odds of (2.04) about the match going over 21.5 games looks an excellent bet as these two continue their hard fought personal series.

The next match up on the very same court is my second bet of the day and hopefully Marin Cilic has the perfect conditions in which to take on Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The big Croatian has been steadily improving on clay in 2012, culminating in a run to the Munich final and, that match aside, he's only been beaten by top players.

Ferrero doesn't really come into that category these days and is susceptible to the powerful shotmakers, as losses to Thomaz Bellucci, Roger Federer, and Igor Andreev illustrate.

JCF should also have been beaten by Robin Haase in Nice, as the Dutchman was pummeling the serves and winners down, but choked at the vital moment.

Cilic has a similarly powerful game and Ferrero's famed retrieving skills are on the wane at the age of 32.

They've met once before, with Cilic winning on a hard court in Cincinnati back in 2009 and I expect him to come out on top again today at a price of around Betfair odds of (1.7).
