The real plus for the Swiss ace was that he dropped just five games in a comprehensive display in the final three sets of the match with Del Potro.

It's as mouth-watering as clashes get, but Brad Thompson thinks Roger Federer can come out on top against Novak Djokovic in tonight's French Open semi-final.

Djokovic goes into the monumental stoush as the clear favourite, despite having to survive four match points in the quarter final against local star Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to stay alive in the tournament.

It wasn't the best way to prepare for an encounter with Federer, but there will also be another bad memory lingering in the back of the Serb's mind.

Rewind back a year and Federer destroyed Djokovic's 41-match winning streak to start 2011 in the very same match, the 2011 semi-final at Roland Garros.

The question remains on Djokovic's ability to withstand the pressures of taking on the likes of Federer and Nadal.

But Djokovic wasn't the only one who had to pull off some magic to advance to the final four this year.

At the same stage of the tournament, Federer was pulling off his own Houdini act.
Federer needed five sets to stave off big-hitting Juan Martin Del Potro after losing the opening two sets.

The real plus for the Swiss ace was that he dropped just five games in a comprehensive display in the final three sets of the match with Del Potro.

Just as Djokovic was amidst an impressive streak the last time they met in Paris, he is now on the back of 26 straight wins in grand slam matches.

On clay, Federer holds a 3-2 advantage, and overall, a 14-11 record against Djokovic. Since 2010, Djokovic holds sway, but only just, with a 6-5 record over Federer.
