Back Crane to fly at the Frys

Crane's 10th place finish last week was eye-catching and he has little to fear in this field (apart from the greatest golfer that's ever lived).

Tiger returns this week but he doesn't make Dan Geraghty's trio in his Three Against the Field column for the Frys.com Open

Ben Crane [36.0] has had a decent couple of years, so I can forgive his mid-season lull in form and besides he clearly had other things on his mind. Crane also struggled in the playoffs recently but last week's 10th place finish was eye-catching and he has little to fear in this field (apart from the greatest golfer that's ever lived).

Patrick Cantlay [55.0] recently lost in the final of the US Amateur and suffered defeat with his US team at the Walker Cup, but the young American may have the last laugh. He's finished in the top 25 in all four of his professional starts (including this years US Open) and the way Cantlay came back to see off Russell Henley at the US Amateur suggested great things lie ahead. Unfortunately, the young fella is paired with Tiger (very Tiger-dominated today's column) for the first two rounds but he seems to thrive on the big stage so it'll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Another wretched year for David Duval [110.0] but he put in a good performance when finishing 23rd last week and was sixth here last year so has earned his spot in the column. It's time to cheer on the former greats.

Dangers: He's back, the greatest Sportsman of our generation makes yet another comeback this week, he has a new caddy in tow (Joe LaCava) and we're led to believe that last week Tiger broke the course record at his new course (Medalist). He's fallen to 51st in the world rankings, something that won't bother him too much as his previous achievements mean he gets into nearly all of the big events for a long while yet. There will be many willing to oppose Tiger again this week but the simple fact is I haven't yet had enough, so he has the dangers section all to himself.

Selections: Ben Crane [36.0], Patrick Cantlay [55.0], David Duval [110.0], (Tiger Woods [8.0])
