...Made a Mistake finished third last time over this 300m trip, three lengths behind Wiginate, and with a best time of 22.73 will attract some support.

Sometimes, you get a race that's such an open contest that almost anything could happen, and just such a prospect is in store at The Gardens on Saturday when race 5 (7.03) sees half a dozen potential winners go into the boxes.

It seems bizarre that a dog with a run of ordinary form until his last-up effort should start favourite, but that is the likely scenario with Made A Mistake, for the Moncrieffs, owner William and handler Lincoln, looking for his fifth win in 16 outings over the track/distance.

There was very little to get excited about his form over the winter, but he finished third last time over this 300m trip, three lengths behind Wiginate, and with a best time of 22.73 will attract some support.

Gommeroi is entitled to even more respect on the strength of his win here on 1 October, when he beat No Show Ray by 6.5 lengths. Some 17 of his 26 starts have come in this sort of contest and he has won three times and placed another three.

Elsewhere, the only other recent winner is Dark Madness, Kevin Brown's bitch who tackles this trip for the first time. She has 14 wins from her 70 career starts, but will have to go a lot better than last time when she finished as the back marker.
