One more win for Grand galloper

The gate is ideal to be sitting on the speed early and while racing in such great heart, One More Grand will take catching again.

Gary Crispe of 'racingandsports' is seeing a hat-trick ahead for in-form galloper One More Grand in today's Custom Security Handicap (race 8) at Canberra.

The Neville Layt-trained gelding, a son of Snitzel, One More Grand has won his last two in this grade, and although being tested at the 1400m for the first time today, will take running down again.

One More Grand resumed over 1000m here in a Becnhmark 65 and after settling second in the run boxed on well to finish a 2.3-length fourth. He then raced over 1200m, again in a Benchmark 65, and carried 58kg to an all the way, scoring by three lengths. Last start, once more in a Becnhmark 65 but carrying 58.5kg, he was here again over 1200m and lead throughout, kicking strongly in the straight to hold a three-quarter-length win.

Today he races over 1400m for the first and tackles the same class but will carry the same weight after the 2kg claim for Yusuke Ichikawa. The gate is ideal to be sitting on the speed early and while racing in such great heart will take catching again.

The Nick Olive-trained Natch Catch was just edged out here last time and looks the clear danger.

The mare was runner-up here over 1400m in this class four back when beaten in a photo, then went to town over 1250m at Canterbury, getting home hard to finish third. Up to 1400m at Kembla Grange she drew wide and sat mid-field before working home steadily for a 2.6-length seventh. Last start, here in this grade over 1400m, she sat mid-field before running on hard in the straight and just missing when a nose second behind Poetic Justice.

She has drawn well in this big field and from there should enjoy a good run off the speed. Although yet to win on her home course, all her four runs have been good including three seconds and she should be hard to hold out again today.

Another local, the lightly raced Daryl, can measure up to the tougher grade today.

Prepared on the course by Keith Dryden, Daryl made his debut on the Sapphire Coast in slow ground and worked home well for a long-neck second. He was then spelled before resuming over 1000m here, getting home late for fifth. He was much better suited over the 1200m trip next start and ran accordingly, sitting just off the pace before running on to claim his maiden win.

The progressive galloper can only be fitter for the run and looks ideally suited by the longer trip. He takes on tougher grade but looks very well placed for a horse on the up, dropping five kilos on his last start win. He should be hard to hold out again.

Al Ahmar was third placed behind Poetic Justice last time and was just a length off Natch Catch. He meets that horse better at the weights and is a strong each way chance on his best form.
