This is a fascinating encounter between two high-scoring teams but I think the Rangers will get the job done in six games. They are marginal favourites to win the American League Pennant at [1.85], which is just about right."
The American League Championship Series pits the Detroit Tigers against the Texas Rangers and Nick Shiambouros feels the big-hitting boys from the south can reach a second successive World Series.
The Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 3-2 in a thrilling fifth playoff game on Thursday night to advance to the American League Championship Series.
Yankee pitcher Ivan Nova gave up two home runs in the first inning and was visibly tense in the early going. Manager Joe Girardi pulled the talented rookie after just 31 pitches as his command crumbled under the intense pressure of the occasion.
The New York bullpen took over but CC Sabathia gave up another run in the fifth inning
The Yankees responded with a run in the fifth and seventh but the Tigers held them at bay and thoroughly deserved the victory. The Texas Rangers await.
The Tigers will start Justin Verlander in the first meeting between the two on Saturday. This superstar ended the regular season with a record of 24-5 and pitched superbly in the Divisional Series.
Verlander is one of the game's elite pitchers with a fastball that has been clocked at over 100mph. He has a superb change-up and a very effective slider for good measure. If he brings his best stuff he will be very difficult to beat in this all-important first game.
The Rangers easily brushed aside the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 to advance to this stage for the second year in a row.
Adrian Beltre launched an incredible three solo homers in Game 4 and was the man of the series. This hard-hitting team averaged .283 in the regular season and will score plenty of runs in this series.
Texas manager Ron Washington has named CJ Wilson as the Saturday night starter in this best of seven series. This lefty won 16 games in the regular season and is a logical choice to start the opening game.
But Wilson did not pitch well against Tampa in Game 1 of the ALDS giving up eight runs in five innings. He is normally a reliable starter but post-season pitching comes with plenty of added pressure.
This is a fascinating encounter between two high-scoring teams but i think the Rangers will get the job done in six games. They are marginal favourites to win the American League Pennant at [1.85] , which is just about right.
I think the Tigers will strike first in the series due to the presence of the great Verlander. This Cy Young Award candidate is the best pitcher in the AL and is well-rested ahead of this important assignment. His combination of raw power and control should be enough to hold the Texas offense at bay.
The Tigers should be priced at around [1.8] to win on Saturday and are well worth an interest.
