Mighty High has the necessary tactical speed to utilise barrier one, and also has a key gear change for the race, with the cross over noseband applied.
If you're worried about taking a skinny price for December Draw, untried at the 2400m of the Caulfield Cup, Brad Thompson suggests siding with the Hong Kong stayer, Mighty High.
December Draw is expected to start the shortest-priced Caulfield Cup favourite in nearly 40 years on Saturday, despite the European discard having yet to be tested over a mile-and-a-half.
December Draw is currently $2.92 with Betfair, a seriously short quote, especially given this year's edition of the race being weak.
The lack of depth in the race is even more validation that Mighty High, a Group One winner over 2400m in Hong Kong, is right in calculations.
Trained by John Moore, Mighty High has now had two runs Downunder to prepare for his Cups jaunt.
His last start yielded a fourth placing in the Caulfield Stakes, but it was a showing indicative of a horse on the cusp of fully settling into his new surroundings, and looking for more ground.
When the sprint came on in that race, Mighty High was left flat-footed before knuckling down when the race was all over.
He has the necessary tactical speed to utilise barrier one, and also has a key gear change for the race, with the cross over noseband applied.
Mighty High will carry top-weight of 57kg, and in my opinion he is very well-weighted in such a weak race for a Group One performer. He emerged as a Caulfield Cup player when making light of 57kg to win the Charter Cup over 2400m in Hong Kong on May 29.
Ridden by champion jockey Darren Beadman, who, having won Melbourne Cups, Golden Slippers and a Cox Plate, can join an elite brigade of seven jockeys who have won the grand slam of Australian racing by adding the Caulfield Cup, Mighty High is currently at each-way odds of $11.5 on Betfair.
