Kosmina seeing Red

Sydney have two wins in their last three games, while Adelaide have only picked up three points from their last five fixtures.

When Adelaide meet Sydney this Thursday night in the A-league, Andy Morris advises you not to write off the Reds.

Sydney FC and Adelaide United is one of the great rivalries of the A-League.

This is not on the basis of an inter-state animosity, but the fact that neither side has dominated over their match history. In the 23 games they have played so far, three have been drawn and the rest have been split, 10 wins apiece.

So it's a tough one to pick from historical form, and punters might want to be guided by their last meeting two months ago.

That day, the Sky Blues picked up a 2-1 win at Hindmarsh Stadium as Jamie Coyne and Nicky Carle struck after the break to seal a come-from-behind win.

Sydney have two wins in their last three games, while Adelaide have only picked up three points from their last five fixtures.

Carle is missing this time with a hamstring injury, but Mark Bridge and Terry Antonis, who have missed the last three games, are available again.

The Reds were going nowhere under Rini Coolen, so the board's decision to axe him and bring back inaugural coach John Kosmina must be seen as a positive step. Their chances of picking up a third win of the season are slim, but a change in boss sometimes leads to an immediate improvement, so a draw shouldn't be discounted here.

Sydney FC are 1.65 in match odds betting, with Adelaide available at 6.0.
