IPL Betting: Battle at the bottom

Deccan's form is poor and their batting is brittle, but their confidence is improving and they should probably be shorter.

When it's second-bottom of the ladder against the bottom in the IPL, and Tobias Gourlay likes the chances of the bottom Charging it's way from the bottom up.

Mumbai

The Indians have suffered injury problems this season. Sachin Tendulkar hurt his finger in the opening game of their season and Lasith Malinga has been to Sri Lanka and back for some treatment on his back. Both should be available to play on Sunday, but there has been some bad news about Mitchell Johnson, who would surely have boosted an attack that conceded more than 200 to Delhi last time out.

Deccan

A first win of the season against Pune last time out and Kumar Sangakkara is buoyant. He recently told the press that the Chargers have the best bowler in the world, Dale Steyn, and the best death bowler in the world, Rusty Theron.

Venue & conditions

First-innings scores in Mumbai this season have varied between 92 and 197. Most recently Mumbai's 163/6 was chased down by Kings XI Punjab with three balls to spare. That was the second successful run chase in four at the Wankhede.

Match Odds

Mumbai have lost three of their last four games and it's hard to see why they are such strong favourites to win this match. Sure, Deccan's form is poor and their batting is brittle, but their confidence is improving and they should probably be shorter than 2.5.

Top Mumbai Batsman

Sachin Tendulkar will be favourite to top-score for Mumbai. But the Little Master's shown little of the form that brought him more than 550 runs in last year's tournament. His highest score from four innings this year is 34 and there is some younger local talent offering better value in this market: Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu.

Top Deccan Batsman

Kumar Sangakkara's standing in the world game is similar to Tendulkar's, but, again, it does not justify his favouritism in this market. The captain's made four scores below 15 in five IPL5 innings to date. If you can lay him for less than 4.5, do so.

Shikhar Dhawan has scored a couple of fifties this season and offers more value from the top of the order.
