“I'm pretty sure we'll go to the Turnbull,” Conlon said.

Smart galloper Rekindled Interest is unlikely to run at Moonee Valley tomorrow night and will be saved for Sunday's Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

Trainer Jim Conlon kept his options open by entering Rekindled Interest in both the Group 3 JRA Cup tomorrow night and Sunday's Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

Yesterday morning Conlon was favouring the more forgiving track at Moonee Valley but after a downpour of rain yesterday and overnight he is now leaning to Sunday's race.

"I'm pretty sure we'll go to the Turnbull," Conlon said.

"I was keeping my options open because up until yesterday we hadn't had any rain and I just didn't want to run him on a firm track."

In a wild night of storms and rain across Melbourne, Flemington received almost 40mm of rain but track manager Mick Goodie currently rates the course a dead (5). Goodie expects there might be a shower or two over the next couple of days before Sunday's meeting, where the rail will be in the true position.

With the edge now off the track, Conlon is keen to run in the Turnbull on Sunday in what is shaping as a much tougher race than Friday's JRA Cup.

"The reasons for going to the Turnbull are that it's a Group 1 and Jonathon (Munz) has a significant chunk of the female family, and it's worth more money.

"Also, under the conditions he is in fairly well with 55.5kg so it looks a logical final lead-up race to him.

"This run is obviously important but it's not his grand final. That's on Cox Plate day.

"The option is open to run in the Caulfield Cup but its most likely going to be the Cox Plate. He loves the Valley and he's terrific at 2040m."
