Secret Flyer drops significantly in weight for the first time this preparation with the claim for Katelyn Mallyon, and is also adept in any conditions should the forecast showers have an effect on the track.

It's the significant value at double figure odds of Secret Flyer that Ben Asgari likes as the grand old sprinter lines up in the final race on the card, the $70,000 Visvanathan Memorial Plate (1100m), at Caulfield on Saturday.

Despite finishing near the tail of the field at each of his three runs this preparation, once you delve a little deeper it isn't hard to give Secret Flyer another chance.

Although he finished last, beaten nine lengths, Secret Flyer's first-up run in the G1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) was actually full of merit when you consider both his closing sectionals, as well as the fact that the first four across the line were Black Caviar, Hay List, Buffering and Foxwedge.

Second-up at Flemington he was again pretty good under 60kgs after receiving a slight check just as he tried to wind up. His third-up run at Moonee Valley needs to simply be forgotten as it was near impossible to make any ground swooping out wide on the night.

The key to all of Secret Flyer's wins have been a strong pace up front that allows him to finish off hard down the outside. With Zedi Knight, Beyond Pardon, Waltzes, Fab Fevola and possibly Rescue Mission (1st emergency) set to line up on Saturday, a fast past looks a certainty.

Of early favourites, Curtana will in all likelihood have to settle towards the rear of the field or risk being trapped three wide. This may present the perfect opportunity for Secret Flyer's jockey Katelyn Mallyon to track her into the race before peeling off her back once into the home straight.

The other favourite, Stratcombe, drawn in barrier one, risks either being trapped on the inside of the field searching for a run in the straight, or conversely being trapped in a speed battle up front if he goes forward.

A winner at each of his last two runs at Caulfield, Secret Flyer drops significantly in weight for the first time this preparation with the claim for Katelyn Mallyon, and is also adept in any conditions should the forecast showers have an effect on the track.

Secert Flyer might be overlooked by many, but he looks great value at double figure odds, so long as it isn't impossible to make ground at wide at Caulfield on Saturday.
