Mr Light Blue will carry just 54kg on the minimum, with Jeff Lloyd doing the steering from a tricky gate in number 10.
With a handy record on the track, Mr Light Blue can cause an upset in the Listed Ipswich Cup, says Brad Thompson.
Not only does Mr Light Blue enjoy the Ipswich circuit, he is also likely to get the right track conditions for him to perform at his best.
The track is currently rated in the dead range, and that's exactly what the Barry Baldwin-trained galloper requires. Mr Light Blue simply doesn't handle the heavy tracks that regularly plague the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
But the return to Ipswich - where he put two wins together last year - is likely to afford the grey a suitable surface. Both of those wins came around the 2150m journey of the Ipswich Cup, and he has also notched four wins and two placings at the distance.
The successive wins were followed up by a brave second placing in the Grand Prix Stakes where he was defeated by the handy Peter Moody-trained stayer Turnitup. On that occasion, he finished in front of talented gallopers Alma's Fury and Fillydelphia.
During his current campaign, Mr Light Blue has performed well providing he has encountered a good surface.
Last start in the Premier's Cup, he was beaten 2.5 lengths behind upset winner Fantastic Blue, ever-consistent runner-up Dance With Her and Ironstein.
Mr Light Blue will carry just 54kg on the minimum, with Jeff Lloyd doing the steering from a tricky gate in number 10.
At each-way odds, he looks one the bet of the day for Ipswich's stand-alone Saturday meeting.
