Hermival, a Mikel Delzangles-trained three-year-old, was an impressive third in the Newmarket 2000 Guineas.

Recovering after returning sore from the Irish 2000 Guineas, Mikel Delzangles runner Hermival might line up for the St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot.

Hermival, a Mikel Delzangles-trained three-year-old, was an impressive third in the Newmarket 2000 Guineas, showing a decent turn of foot to pull clear on his side of the course only to be beaten by Camelot and French Fifteen, which had raced in the main body of the field.

He was well fancied for the Irish 2000 Guineas off the back of that performance but the ground was too fast for the son of Dubawi, which never looked quite at home on the surface and he finished down the field.

The Timeform 116-rated performer has many options remaining for the rest of the season, with the Prix Jean Prat also being touted as a possible destination should connections decide to bypass Ascot.

Power is the favourite for the St James's Palace Stakes after his victory in the Irish Guineas last time, Aidan O'Brien's colt having demonstrating brilliant acceleration at the Curragh to reel back Daddy Long Legs and Wrote.

Power, which currently trades @ (2.2) for the St James's Palace Stakes is currently rated 199, considered 3 lb superior to the Mikel Delzangles-trained three-year-old.
