...with only two kilograms above the minimum, despite a class edge on her rivals, Spurcific looks a great bet.
When she tackles the final race at Flemington on Saturday, Ben Asgari sees the Robbie Griffiths-trained mare Spurcific as well-placed to break back into the winner's circle .
With over $360,000 in prize money, more than double that of her nearest rival, Spurcific looks extremely well-placed, carrying just the two kilograms above the minimum.
Drawn perfectly to suit her get-back-run-on style of racing in barrier nine, it wouldn't surprise if Steven King got onto the back of Gossip Girl early and positioned Spurcific closer in the run than usual should they want to walk up front.
In the Listed Creswick Stakes over this track and distance last year, she settled sixth of eighteen runners and was only run down late in a photo finish by the very handy sprinter Liveandletdie.
As Saturday's meeting was originally supposed to have been run at Moonee Valley, Spurcific looks to be one of the real winners from the transfer, with the straight track at Flemington a key factor in her winning chances.
From four previous starts down the Flemington straight she has recorded a close-up second behind Pinker Pinker, a fourth behind Curtana (beaten 1.6 lengths at Listed level), the close-up defeat behind Liveandletdie as well as a two-and-a-half length victory over the boys.
Spurcific's current price of (5.40) in a 110% market on the exchange appears well over the odds considering her straight track record, and with only two kilograms above the minimum, despite a class edge on her rivals, she looks a great bet.
