Timeform's Gary Crispe likes handy mare True Jeune in today's Adecco Handicap (race 6) at Bathurst.

The mare, who drops in class for this Benchmark 70 over 1400m, is close to a win and should take catching despite a wide gate.

Prepared at Orange by Peter Stanley, True Jeune has taken on some tough assignments since her last success but on her last couple will go close here.

Seventh in the Orange Cup then eighth in the Wellington Cup, she then headed to the city where she made late ground to finish eight at Warwick Farm. That was her first run since a let up and she then returned to the country where she ran fourth over 1400m at Parks with 59kg. Last start, over 1420m in open class at Dubbo, True Jeune took up the running and was there to the final stages, lifting strongly before being grabbed late and finishing runner-up behind Kinetics.

The mare will appreciate the drop back in class for this, and the small field suits, where she is likely to head forward again. At the course she has raced three times for two wins and she also boasts a very good record at the trip, with two wins and three minors from seven tries.

The mare looks overdue for a win and should give her backers a big sight today.

The Garry White trained Colour Purple will be all the rage here on his last start city placing and he does look hard to beat.

The lightly-raced gelding failed to break through last campaign but ran some excellent races in tougher class. He placed at the provincials five back then had a luckless run from a wide gate there next time, before finishing off his campaign in open class here, where he was beaten a nose in a small field.

Resuming over 1100m at Scone in a far tougher and richer race he drew off the track and raced off the track throughout, battling on well after a tough run to finish 12th. He then raced in a Benchmark 85 in town at Warwick Farm and after settling fifth and racing three wide throughout, he battled home to hold third, albeit 7.8 lengths away.

He looks well-placed here third up over the 1400m journey and will appreciate the easier grade. His best ratings have him right in the finish but the worry is he rises 6kg on his last run to 60kg here and has been almost 18 months since he last broke through. I would be wary about taking short odds to see him do it today.

Centover was solid in the Country Cup at Scone last time and looks a strong each way chance.

The veteran galloper was runner-up at Mudgee in open class two back when running on hard to just miss, the tackled the far tougher Country Cup at Scone where he carried 58kg and had little luck when seventh after being held up for runs in the straight.

That race was worth $60,000 so suffice to say while this is a higher grade he will find much easier opposition and has a nice weight drop. The trip suits and he'll be hard to hold out.

Bommerang has a nice draw here and rates well on his best form. The trip suits and he'll be prominent throughout at each way odds.
