... the exciting Grands Crus is all about potential at this stage...

David Pipe's big race favourite needs some improvement if you go by the Timeform ratings.

Grands Crus is the early [3.5] favourite on Betfair for Saturday's Argento Chase, but on Timeform figures is only sixth top-rated going into the race.

Of course, that only tells half the story.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin explained: "Timeform believe Grands Crus has 10lb to find with a peak-form Captain Chris on Saturday, and actually has five horses ahead him on their Argento ratings.

"But the exciting Grands Crus is all about potential at this stage, albeit with top-class hurdles form to his name and from a highly impressive base on the back of his Feltham win, and he is certainly one of the few going into the race that could have considerable improvement in him.

"This is evidenced by the fact that only he and the fast-improving The Minack are given a small 'p' on Timeform's ratings in the 13-strong field at the five-day stage."
