Manchester City are on the brink of Premier League title after showing how it's done in their defeat of Newcastle on the weekend.
Manchester City took a huge step towards winning the Premier League title thanks to a 0-2 win over Newcastle this afternoon.
The game was evenly balanced throughout with neither side registering many shots on target but there was a sense that Roberto Mancini's men had that extra 'cutting edge' should it be needed.
And it was an inspired Mancini sub that provided that cutting edge, Nigel de Jong coming on midway through the second half allowing Yaya Toure licence to get forward to score his two late goals. That result meant there was a subdued atmosphere at Old Trafford when Manchester United hosted Swansea. Also taking a giant step towards safety were QPR thanks to a late Djibril Cisse goal against Stoke at Loftus Road, but it wasn't such good news for Bolton who squandered a 2-0 lead at home to West Brom in the game of the day. Elsewhere there was a win for Fulham over Sunderland whilst relegated Wolves played out a goalless draw with Everton.
Arsenal (1.1) and Tottenham (1.2) are the two clubs most likely to fill the Top Four positions according to the Betfair market, but Newcastle (5.1) and Chelsea (7.6) are still in with a shout should either (or both) of the north London clubs slip-up next weekend.
In the Relegation market QPR can now be backed at 3.85 with Betfairians believing Blackburn (1.02) and Bolton (1.34) will be Championship clubs come next Sunday afternoon.
