Don't discount Hewitt

Hewitt's singles ranking of 181 is deceptive, and Roddick knows he will be in for a tough test.

Andy Morris won't be discounting Lleyton Hewitt as he aims to take the scalp of 15th seed Andy Roddick in the final match on Rod Laver Arena on Thursday.

Always a favourite here, Hewitt has played in the Australian Open every year since 1997.

His best year, when he reached the final in 2005, may be some time ago, but he showed in reaching the Wimbledon quarter-final in 2009 that he is not one to be discounted.

Hewitt's singles ranking of 181 is deceptive, and Roddick knows he will be in for a tough test. While Hewitt overcame Germany's Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in four sets in the first round, Roddick comfortably dispatched Robin Haase of the Netherlands in straight sets.

Since 2002, Roddick has never failed to at least reach the third round. Whether he can make the semis for the fourth time here -- the last coming in 2009 -- is open to debate, but this encounter should be a thriller.

Andy Murray will be as closely watched as ever, when he takes on Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France on Hisense Arena. The fourth seed was taken to four sets in his first round match against American Ryan Harrison, but looked better the longer the match went on.

Murray has been a runner-up in both of the last two years in Melbourne and is aiming to build on a superb 2011 in which he made at least the semis in all four Grand Slams.
