Choi outside chance at Cog

It’s a course where KJ Choi makes plenty of appeal after he posted three rounds of 69 on end to finish the tournament in third spot last year.

Even though there is so much to play for at Cog Hill, that hasn't helped Brad Thompson find a winner any easier in the BMW Championship.

A vital spot in the top five, a berth in the top 70 to stay alive in the Fedex Cup and also the chance to put a strong hand up for President's Cup selection beckons.

The Cog Hill layout copped some flack last year, but organisers and designers believe this edition will be much fairer as it looks to secure it's spot in the BMW Championship rotation.

It's a course where KJ Choi makes plenty of appeal after he posted three rounds of 69 on end to finish the tournament in third spot last year.

And after he missed the cut last week at the Deutsche Bank, Choi is at the fine odds of $5.8 for a top-10 finish.

Don't discount him to win the tournament either, even though he is at $70 on Betfair ($51 TAB). This is the kind of course where his consistent shot-making will hold him in good stead.

Aussie hope Adam Scott couldn't be in better form, with a tie for 8th at TPC Boston at his last outing.

He has four top-10s from his last six starts, including a victory, but hasn't appeared overly convincing that he can close out another tournament with a win by year's end. He ranks 60th in fairways, 35th in greens and second in the all-around, and placed with a tie for 15th here last year.

He won't be troubled by being thereabouts again, and at $4.70 for a top-5 placing looks well worth diving into.

Of course, Dustin Johnson won this event last year, and is another producing a big year. He is very well found in the market at $18 on Betfair ($16 TAB), but probably deserves to be favourite, and therefore should be respected.

Have something on Johnson to win at $18.

Luke Donald is in superb form, with three tops tens from last four starts, including third at the Deutsche Bank.

But, as the $13 favourite?

Simply, I can't take those odds for a player - no matter how good he promises to be - who finds it tough to win.

And, as well as Jason Day is playing, I'm not convinced this is his course. He is also well-found in the market at $21 - I can't see any value in that, but a good showing would not shock.

RECOMMENDED BETS

- Back KJ Choi at odds for the win at top-10
- Back Adam Scott for the top-5.
- Back Dustin Johnson to win.
- Lay Jason Day and Luke Donald.
