Don’t write Victory off yet.
Seven meetings between Melbourne Victory and Gold Coast United so far have failed to produce a draw, and Andy Morris wonders whether Sunday could see the first stalemate.
Considering how tight the encounters have been, not least February's 1-0 success for United in the Semi-Final, it's surprising that somehow one team has always come out on top.
This meeting may have something of an edge given that Victory's controversial 2-0 win last season is still fresh in the minds of fans, players and coaches.
Both teams now need to kick into a higher gear. Melbourne have drawn four of their last five, while Gold Coast have lost four and won a single in that time.
Don't write Victory off yet. Defensively they are generally sound, but they have yet to find the ideal striking combination. Last week's draw against Perth was a setback, though, considering they had led 2-0 against a 10-man opposition.
Gold Coast are bottom of the league and are finding out that when you're down fate can sometimes kick you even harder. For this match, they're without the absent James Brown and Dylan McGowan.
Melbourne's return to the winner's list could hinge on the form of Archie Thompson, who has scored or created all but one of their goals so far this season.
Victory are 1.94 in match odds betting, while United are 4.4.
