Coming off a devastating win in the Bridgestone last weekend, Scott couldn’t be in better shape to redeem himself.
With no less than nine Aussies currently in the USPGA field, Brad Thompson analyses who might be the best prospect to take out the major.
Robert Allenby, Aaron Baddeley, Jason Day, Steve Elkington, Richard Green, Brendan Jones, Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and John Senden will be looking to become the fifth Australian to win the final major of the year.
ADAM SCOTT ($24 Betfair - $21 TAB)
He probably should have won the US Masters and deserves to shake the 'non-major winner' tag here at the USPGA.
Coming off a devastating win in the Bridgestone last weekend, Scott couldn't be in better shape to redeem himself. The long-handled putter is working a treat and everyone knows how good his ball striking is.
The combination with Steve Williams on the bag is obviously working too.
If he can keep the ball in the short stuff from the tee, and keeps the flat stick in check, then this is his course.
I doubt he's ever had a better shot at a major.
JASON DAY ($28 Betfair - $19 TAB)
It's a no-brainer that if you like Jason Day to win the USPGA, then Betfair is the place to back him, with a $9 differential compared to the TAB.
He was back in full flight in round one at the Bridgestone last weekend, even if his final round wasn't overly impressive.
There's no doubt he has an undeniable chance here, but he's finding it tough to link four rounds of solid golf together since his great showing at the Masters.
I would prefer to back his countryman (Scott), but it's worth having something on him.
AARON BADDELEY ($130 Betfair - $61 TAB)
Let's start by saying that the TAB quote of $61 is ridiculous (it's less than half of what's on offer with Betfair).
If you back him with the TAB, then it might be time give up punting.
It's hard to see Badds winning here anyway. Considering how tight the course is, his driving accuracy will need to be at its absolute premium to feature.
Scott and Day make much more appeal.
GEOFF OGILVY ($100 Betfair - $51 TAB)
Another one to back with Betfair at almost double the value of the TAB.
This is the type of layout that suits Ogilvy, even if his form isn't overly indicative of a coming major championship.
But as he showed at the Masters, he can bob up when least expected.
The odds of $7.40 with Betfair to finish in the top-10 look attractive.
