Saints closer than you think

St Kilda have a finals spot to chase and they are chasing hard.

The man in the know, Nick T, coughs up his hot tips for this weekend's round of the AFL.

ST KILDA (v Collingwood)
2 units at match odds of $3.50 or better

The opening price put up about St Kilda is utterly absurd.

The Saints are absolutely flying, having won six straight and nine of their last 11. Ross Lyon's men have also won six straight at the Docklands, with only one team getting within 20 points of the rejuvenated St Kilda.

Admittedly, one of those losses came against Collingwood and the Saints haven't won any of their last four against the Pies, but they are simply over the odds by a fair margin.

St Kilda have a finals spot to chase and they are chasing hard, so expect them to go very close against Collingwood.

FREMANTLE (v Carlton)
2 units at match odds of $2.60 or better

Big Aaron Sandilands returns for the Dockers this week and is set to make all the difference in a team that has historically had the wood on the Blues.

Carlton have beaten Fremantle only twice since 2002, losing 12 games to the Perth team over that period. The Blues' record at Paterson's Stadium (Subiaco) is equally disconcerting, losing 12 of their last 15 at the ground. Carlton have played three times interstate this year and won them all, but those wins were only against the Power, the Suns and the Swans (the last of which was a test).

Fremantle showed plenty of fight against the Saints last week, and if they can display that character with Sandilands back and a finals spot well and truly riding on this result, expect them to run Carlton very close.

ESSENDON (v Western Bulldogs)
2 units at match odds of $1.60 or better

The Western Bulldogs are done and dusted.

They have rolled the Bombers in seven of their last nine clashes, but that was a different Bulldogs outfit than the one that has lost three straight and now enters this off a bye. The Doggies were embarrassing for a half against West Coast before showing some spirit and fighting back. Slow out of the blocks that day, off a bye the same is expected again.

The Dons have won four of six, and their last two at Docklands, so with a finals berth to fight for a big showing is on the cards.
