The Cats go well against the Pies, winning six of the last nine contests, including a shock 65-62 win in round eight.

In the final round of the home and away season, Nick Tedeschi sniffs at least one upset in the air...

GEELONG (v Collingwood)
1 unit at match odds of $2.80 or better

If this was the Grand Final and all the Collingwood team was up and fit, betting would be about right in this, with the Magpies rightfully pronounced favourites.

But with this match essentially meaningless, the Cats coming off a shock loss and the Pies likely to be without key players Heath Shaw, Dale Thomas and Nick Maxwell, an upset could be brewing here.

The Cats go well against the Pies, winning six of the last nine contests, including a shock 65-62 win in round eight. Mick Malthouse is unlikely to open his bag of tricks this week, and ever the psychologist, he may well see the benefits in a defeat.

The price on Geelong just looks too big.

ST KILDA (v Carlton)
1.5 units at match odds of $1.90 or better

Motivation is a big thing in football and this week Carlton have nothing to play for while St Kilda have a home final on the line.

Carlton are locked into fifth position. They are going nowhere.

St Kilda, the most dangerous of the bottom three sides in the finals, sit sixth and will most likely win a home final with a victory over the Blues.

The Blues have won the last two between these two sides but prior to that the Saints won 12 straight.

The Saints are likely to just want it more.

RICHMOND (v North Melbourne)
3 units at match odds of $2.10 or better

It seems like fate. A cruel, twisted fate.

Since 1994, Richmond have finished ninth an astonishing seven times and somehow seem on the precipice of another ninth placed finish this year, thought impossible only a few weeks ago.

But if any team can finish ninth, it is the Tigers, and off three straight wins, they can best the deflated Kangaroos who had their finals hopes dashed with a heavy loss to St Kilda on Saturday night.

North have only won one of their last four against the Tigers and have lost both matches played at the Docklands.

It seems like fate that Richmond will win, even if it is against their better interests.
