Classic on the cards

There was only five points between the teams when they last played at the MCG in Round 12 when the Cats came out on top.

We're only in the first week of the finals, but there won't be too many clashes that Andy Morris will anticipate as much as Geelong's meeting with Hawthorn on Friday.

Geelong definitely have the wood over the Hawks, but sometimes history can be put to one side.

Certainly Hawthorn will not be too worried about their past failures against the Cats, as they really fancy their chances of claiming another flag this year.

There were only five points between the teams at the MCG in Round 12 when the Cats came out on top. They own a six-game winning streak against Hawthorn, but both the Hawks and maybe Geelong more so well-remember the 2008 grand final when the outsiders in the Hawks rose to the challenge on the big stage.

Geelong bounced back in style last weekend from their shock loss to the Swans in Round 22, looking awesome as they beat the Pies by 96 points at the MCG. And the Cats are largely injury-free, with Joel Corey (groin) the only regular senior player in any doubt.

Hawthorn have had a relatively easy recent fixture list. They should be able to brush off the narrow victory over the Suns last week, as they rested eight key players.

This shapes up to be a real classic, with Geelong available at 1.74 in match odds betting, while Hawthorn are 2.34.
