Sydney triumphed with an emphatic display over the Western Bulldogs, celebrating a 44-point win that lifts the Swans into fifth spot on the ladder.

Collingwood stretched its unbeaten run to nine games, with a narrow three-point victory over Adelaide, a result which secures top spot in the minor premiership season.

The Magpies had to settle for a less than dominant result after a determined Crows side threatened to rain on their parade. The Crows led for a large percentage of the game before the Magpies battled back in the final quarter to seal a 6.18 (54) to 7.9 (51) win.

Geelong held off a resilient challenge from Carlton to record its 16th victory of the season, ending the game 18.13 (121) to 12.7 (79) winners.

The Cats remain one game away from a second place finish on the ladder, while Carlton will need to defeat Fremantle next week to progress.

St Kilda's 21-point victory over Richmond kept hopes of a second place finish alive.

The Saints maintained a lead for much of the contest but were trailed by the Tigers throughout. However, the Saints eventually powered home, blasting four goals in the final term to seal a 17.13 (115) to 14.10 (94) victory.

The contest was effectively all over by the third quarter as the Power drilled in seven goals to take a 37-point lead into the final term, which proved enough as the home side cruised to a 17.10 (112) to 11.17 (83) win.

Brisbane downed a well below par Essendon by 27 points, dominating the clash throughout, as they ran out 14.11 (95) to 10.8 (68) victors against an inexperienced Bombers' side.
