Andy Morris looks at the AFL battles of last weekend.

Geelong continued the chase for a third premiership title in four years, out-gunning and overpowering Fremantle by 69 points in a largely one-sided contest.

Geelong will now go on to face the minor premiers, Collingwood, after the Cats put last week's defeat against the Saints behind them with a polished display that ended the Dockers' hopes of progression.

The Cats set a down a marker with a blistering opening term in which they scored eight goals, from which the Dockers never fully recovered. Geelong effectively controlled proceedings from then on, easing their way to a preliminary final berth with a score of 20.15 (135) to 10.6 (66).

They will now face arguably the league's toughest opponents, Collingwood, with the sides having spilt their two previous meetings earlier in the season. Collingwood's most recent 22-point victory in round 19 will serve as a reminder as to the task faced if Geelong is to keep its hopes of another premiership alive.

The Western Bulldogs staged a remarkable comeback as they recorded a five-point victory over Sydney to progress into a preliminary final clash against St Kilda.

After a lacklustre opening, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing by a margin of 30 points deep into the second quarter. However, with the Swans missing key chances to add to their lead after the main break, the Bulldogs were able to rally and the teams were level at the final change.

The Swans then went ahead inside the opening minutes of the final term only to see their lead cancelled out almost immediately before Daniel Giansiracusa set up one goal, before adding another himself to restore the Bulldogs lead, which they held until the final siren to complete a memorable turnaround, 11.11 (77) to 10.12 (72).
